It opens by fixing the whole frame as thick impasto oil paint, and every later description cashes that out: the figures are layered strokes, the sun is heavily textured thick paint, and the floor is rough paint over whitewash. That tells the model how each object should be built from paint, instead of applying a generic oil-painting filter.
